The Perfect Work Bag
A work bag is a wardrobe workhorse that we see so often it’s easy to overlook it when we’re ready for a refresh. Since most of us use this bag every day, a work bag is a piece to seriously consider investing in (or add it to your holiday wish list). When I think about the perfect work bag, I always consider functionality first and then determine the best style. There are lots of choices out there and there’s nothing more frustrating than buying a new bag and realizing it’s not roomy enough to hold everything you need it to or that it’s too fussy to take care of day in and day out. Here are some of my top picks for laptop bags, statement bags, and the always classic shoulder bag.
The Laptop Bag
If you carry your laptop to and from work every day this factor alone determines the best bag for you. There is a serious lack of amazing laptop bags out there, so the struggle is real in this department. Here are a few of my absolute favorite laptop friendly work bags:
This bag by Cuyana is a beautiful classic work bag. It's structured but roomy and has two leather options, a smooth finish or a contrasting pebbled leather and smooth leather finish which is my favorite. It also comes in a taupe color called clay that's lovely if you can trust yourself with lighter colors (unlike me). Cuyana has become a standout star for beautiful basics at a reasonable price so poke around on their site if you have a minute.
This workhorse by Mark & Graham is an easy slim bag that get the job done for work but is unfussy enough to look great with casual weekend looks. And, if monograms are your thing, it's thrown in for free when you purchase this bag (which is pretty rare these days).
This bag is technically an overnight bag (Lo & Son's carries laptop specific bags for computers of different sizes) but I find this bag to be roomier than their laptop bags and all the different compartments keep me nice and organized. It's a great bag for travel because it's easy to keep clean and hooks onto your luggage. I've had this bag for five years and I still use it all the time. It was totally worth the money.
The Statement Bag
Sick of the typical black or brown workbag? Want your bag to make a statement? If so, you might want to go with a trendier bag like a backpack or a bucket style which are both super popular this fall. Another option is to add some drama by opting for a bag in a color other than the traditional black or brown or one in both shades.
Oversized Bucket Bag by Cuyana
While the bucket bag has made a strong comeback for Fall 2016, it's a pretty classic style for an on-trend piece. In a vibrant red, this bag will bring a little brightness to the otherwise monotonous daily grind. This is the perfect statement piece that will also go the distance in your wardrobe.
Eartha Iconic Leather Backpack by ZAC by Zac Posen
I'm a sucker for architectural lines and shapes in wardrobe accent pieces like bags and jewelry and this bag by Zac Posen is no exception. This rich merlot color is perfect for fall.
31 Hour Bag by Phillip Lim
Phillip Lim does almost everything insanely well and that includes this bag, the 31 Hour Bag (and my next pick). The 31 Hour Bag fits so much that it can also work as an overnight bag (the link above will take you to a photo showing all the loot it can haul). This style also comes in navy.
Medium Pashli Shark Embossed Leather Satchel by Phillip Lim
Making a statement with a workbag is all about subtle, luxe touches and unexpected shapes and colors which is why this white shark embossed leather satchel is also on my lust list. This bag is the perfect size for daily use and it's structure and standout white/ cream shade makes it a great day to night bag. It's also available in black, black cherry, and taupe if white isn't for you.
The Shoulder Bag
Last, everyone needs the perfect shoulder bag in their life for work, travel or both. My favorites are roomy in rich leathers and suedes to pull any look together. Here are some great bags will take you from work to play:
Maverick Leather Tote in Cognac by Marc Jacobs
Finding the right shade of brown in bags and shoes is tricky which is why you can never go wrong with cognac. It's the perfect shade of brown to pair with black, navy, charcoal, or richer shades of brown. This lovely little number by Marc Jacobs fits the bill perfect.
Block T Leather Tote by Tory Burch
I've never seen a texture combo I didn't like and that includes this leather and suede tote by Tory Burch. This is the perfect understated black tote for everyday and it's big enough to fit a laptop.
Leather Tote in Deep Clay by Cuyana
Here's another great leather bag by Cuyana to finish off the list. This shimmery taupe shade adds a nice pop to darker outerwear and the soft leather makes it an easy everyday pick.
