What To Wear To A Beach Formal Or Semiformal Wedding

June 5, 2014

With summer underway and wedding season well underway, you're apt to recieve a wedding invation or two that may requires some dresscode translation. Don't panic, I've got you covered. Here are the gudielines and some inspiration for what to wear to a beach formal or semiformal wedding.

Styling Notes for Beach Formal

Semiformal Wedding Attire:

1. An invitation with beach formal attire requested means you should opt for a more formal sundress, tea-length or knee-length dress or skirt. Skip dresses made out of 100% cotton and go for fabrics with a little structured or a more luxurious feel like silk.

2. Even with the word formal in there, it's still a beach wedding so wear dressier sandals or a wedge if you have a killer sense of balance and them off in the sand (I cannot). Up the formality factor by picking  jewelry with more drama like a chandelier earring.

3.  A semiformal wedding--often sneakily coined “dressy casual”-- calls for a cocktail dress or a dressy skirt and top. Think cocktail party attire. And don’t forget to have some fun with accessories. After all, this is exactly the sort of event that cocktail rings were invited for!

4. When it comes to events that call for us to be more dressed up than for everyday life, it's always smart to incorporate items you already have so you're not spending money on clothes or accessories you'll only wear once. I've included some animal prints here so you can see how you can work  pieces you already own into an outfit for a more formal event.
